What is Reiki?
It is a safe, gentle and effective Japanese healing technique used to help the client let go of stress and anxiety while promoting a calm, peaceful feeling within.
What happens during a Reiki session?
The practitioner, having been trained in this healing modality, allows themselves to be a vessel through which positive, universal energy flows freely via a non-invasive “light touch” or “no actual touch” to the client. The practitioner places their hands in a series of areas on the head, front and back of torso, along with the limbs if any pain or discomfort is present there. Hand placements are never intrusive nor inappropriate in any way.
The person receiving Reiki is fully clothed and can receive treatment either lying on a massage table or sitting in a chair. Soft music is played during a session, unless the client prefers silence. No special preparation is needed for this session, other than dressing comfortably.
How and why does Reiki work?
It is based on the principle that an unseen life force exists within all of us and in everything around us. It is commonly referred to as “ki,” or “chi.”
It is believed this force is what causes us to be alive and if one’s force is unbalanced, a person is more susceptible to feeling unwell or stressed. Likewise, if this force is properly balanced, a person is more likely to feel happy and healthy.
What does a Reiki treatment feel like?
Although treatment experiences can be subjective and vary, mostly clients feel very relaxed and comfortable. Many clients often feel heat emanating from the practitioner’s hands or possibly a refreshing cool sensation.
A study revealed that Reiki recipients frequently feel that they are hovering in a threshold state of consciousness, while simultaneously being fully aware of their surroundings.
Some people even fall into a deep, sleep like meditative state as they experience an almost immediate release of stress within a feeling of deep relaxation.

NOTE: Remote sessions are just as effective as ones conducted in person.
